When Pianist Nivaldo Ornelas and reedman Teo Leão turned to veteran producer Carlos de Andrade’s Visom label for this project, the challenge was a great one: Recreating the very best songs of Milton Nascimento in an instrumental contemporary setting, without losing the essence of the original.

Turing to their mentor for the inspiration of As Canções de Milton Nascimento (The Songs of Milton Nascimento), was a natural choice for these two talented performers, and they quickly gathered the crème of Rio’s active studio scene, including guitarist Torcuato Mariano and the superb vocal group Be Happy.

This album is an exciting grouping of the songwriter's best work. Each song is beautifully arranged in a contemporary setting, allowing the emphasis on Nascimento’s melodic creativity. The production quality and musicianship are superb on ‘San Vincente’, ‘Morro Velho’, ‘Clube da Esquina’ and eight others. This album magically illustrates the lyrical nature of Milton's music, but without the words.
