Go back to the beginning of a stellar career with this rare 2-CD set of Elis Regina's initial recordings: The complete songs from her 1961 debut, 'Viva a Brotolândia' and 1962's 'Poema de Amor'!
Her style here is markedly different from the sound she grew into in the 70s and 80s – youth shows its power with a surprising, sparking charm which stayed with her throughout her career. And even at this early stage, Elis was a marvelous interpreter of pop songs of the day: from her own coutnry’s top songwrters, to hitmakers here at home – Paul Anka and even Rodgers & Hammerstein - these titles mix together both Bossa and pop style. She’s framed here by beautiful string arrangements and some of Brazil’s top orchestras of the time, including those of Severino Araujo and Renato De Oliveira.
From the very beginning, Elis Regina showed a remarkable talent and for the first time on CD, these first steps taken by Brazil’s greatest singer are here for us to enjoy all over again!
