This week, it’s two hours of fan favorites from one of Brazil’s outstanding performers, Grammy-winning pianist, singer, and songwriter Eliane Elias. This week, I’ve added a special treat: A song from Eliane Elias’s new album Quietude.
It’s our Spotlight Song of The Week, towards the end of the first hour.
Eliane’s personal story begins in Sao Paolo, Brazil where she was born in 1960. Her mother played classical piano and also was an avid jazz fan with an extensive record collection.
This musical atmosphere enabled Eliane to become an accomplished classical pianist at age 12. By the time she was 15, Eliane was attending high school in the mornings, teaching master classes in the afternoons, and playing in clubs at night.
As the years went by, Eliane yearned to play with American jazz artists. As a serious student of jazz, she had not only transcribed and analyzed dozens of great piano solos ranging from Bud Powell and Oscar Peterson to contemporary piano voices: Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, and Keith Jarrett.
Let’s plan to settle in together sometime this week for some quality time with the world’s best music on The Sounds of Brazil!
Back2Back! Our top-of-the-hour two-in-a-row features new music – every Wednesday, plus a surprising two-fer every Monday and Friday, too! Listen Live at 11 am, 2 pm, and 5 pm Central on the PLAY buttons, above!
