Hello again,

This week, we’re off to explore the artistic soul of Brazil, using Google Maps Street View as our guide.

Salvador, Bahia sits on Brazil’s northeastern coast, bathed in sunshine and near-equatorial heat. The 469-year-old city was the main port-of-call for the trade routes and slave ships from Angola and the Gold Coast before sailing on to Havana and New Orleans and it’s because of this that Bahia has the strongest cultural connection to Mother Africa in our hemisphere.

This is where the roots of Brazilian music have incubated to inspire this week’s show, ‘Divas From Bahia’!

Our playlist focuses on the music of several of Bahia’s best: Gal Costa, Daniela Mercury, Astrud Gilberto, Maria Bethania, Nana Caymmi, and Vania Abreu.

But we’ve cloaked these Divas within a musical travelogue to let you explore Salvador via Google Maps.

The Lacerda Elevator – https://goo.gl/SzFX9c

Mercado Modelo – https://goo.gl/TUo86e

The Sounds of Brazil will accompany you every step of the way with songs from Dionne Warwick, Joao Gilberto, guitarist Larry Coryell, Dori Caymmi, and Gilberto Gil.

Both Cuban guitarist Toledo and Germany’s Berward Koch get their passports stamped in Bahia this week. And songs from Phillipe Saisse, Sergio Mendes, plus a Grover Washington Jr. Samba will ease your transition back home.

So pack lightly and leave room for lots of great music!

Happy Listening,
Scott Adams
