The Brazilian Minute: Antonio Carlos Jobim
No single musician has popularized Brazilian music worldwide as Antonio Carlos Jobim.
He composed more than 300 certified hit songs, including ‘Corcovado’, ‘One Note Samba’, and one of the most recorded songs of all time, ‘The Girl from Ipanema’.
Born in Rio de Janeiro on January 25th, 1927, Jobim literally “fell” into music at age 18: breaking his back from a fall from atop a human pyramid.
His first song was recorded in 1953 and it paved the way for the birth of Bossa Nova which made him world-famous. Today, Jobim’s music still influences Jazz, Bossa Nova, and pop performers worldwide.
Antonio Carlos Jobim: One of the world’s most important songwriters and a member of the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.
