Hi Everyone,
Another summery holiday weekend – don’t forget the music!
How is it that one of Brazil’s most exciting new voices comes from… Italy?
Well, we’ve come to expect great things from Rosalia de Souza since her early days as a stable singer for the Milan-based label, Schema. Her solo career began with the New Bossa gem ‘Garota Moderna’ (Modern Girl). She quickly won fans and the buzz heated up!
You’ll find that there’s plenty to like about Rosalia de Souza this week on The Sounds of Brazil, including a song form her new album.
Our playlist includes classic Brazilian jazz from Marcos Valle and Lee Ritenour with Djavan, classic MPB from Rita Lee and a dreamy drift-away tune from Kevyn Lettau.
I’ve even sprinkled in requests for Toco, Marcos Ariel and Sergio Mendes with Brasil 66, too.
The perfect tonic – with a twist – for July’s ‘Summer Sambas’ theme.
Enjoy,
And now, the week’s top topics:
Joao Gilberto passed away in Rio de Janeiro Saturday, at age 88. Frail and in failing health, the Father of Bossa Nova joins the very small number of true musical innovators and his life in music will be forever appreciated.
You’ll find our story on his passing here.
