Hardly a week goes by without a request for information on a music tour of Rio de Janeiro. The truth is, these once-great tours come and go, usually promising more than they deliver. But there’s good news too, and here it is: You can do it on your own.

Connect Brazil’s guide to the Blue Note Jazz Club in Rio de Janeiro can help you get started. If youโ€™re a Brazilian music fan, you might even see this as a game-changer for Rioโ€™s jazz scene.

Connect Brazil’s Guide To Blue Note Rio: A Wide Move

The original (and world-famous) Blue Note Jazz Club opened in New York’s Greenwich Village in 1981. Today youโ€™ll find them in Sรฃo Paulo, Waikiki, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Milan, Beijing, and Shanghai. For Rio, it was a dream come true.

โ€œI started to go to New Yorkโ€™s Blue Note when I was a child, and I have always been fascinated by it,โ€ Blue Note partner Daniel Stain explained to the Rio Times. โ€œIn September [2016], [my partner] Calainho and I embarked on the project of bringing Blue Note to Rio. Now, the dream is coming true.

โ€œFor this project to work, it was fundamental to have good musicians around. Rio seemed to be the perfect place because this is where many musicians stayโ€.

Nestled in Rioโ€™s posh, upscale Zona Sul neighborhood of Lagoa, the Blue Note Rio debuted on August 30, 2017, with high expectations to become Blue Noteโ€™s first location in the Southern Hemisphere. Growing pains led to a new location next to the iconic Copacabana Palace Hotel in 2023.

The Blue Note Rio brings you close to the music; it’s classy, cozy, and intimate with great acoustics. Nightly events cover a wide range of quality Jazz artists, and the restaurant offers a varied menu for casual dining.

Connect Brazil’s Guide To Blue Note Rio: Tips and Advice

Our goal is to provide you with the best Blue Note Rio information possible, so we asked our readers and listeners to share their suggestions.

“We planned ahead by getting our tickets online ahead of time. And because it’s general admission seating, get there about an hour early.”

“The choice seats are in the center of the room if you want the best sight lines and acoustics.”

“In addition to the ticket price, there’s a minimum charge for food and drinks. Ditto for ordering off the menu. Like many eateries along Avenue Atlantica, the food is not the main attraction!”

“Be careful about using your phone. My partner was told to stop filming a live jazz show. Snapshots and short clips may be okay, but it might be cool to ask first!”

And here is a helpful hint that never fails. Always introduce yourself to the Concierge at your hotel and include a generous tip. A good concierge can make your next visit to Rio de Janeiro filled with memories to last a lifetime, from exclusive restaurants and shows to day excursions and more.

Finally, don’t change US dollars to Brazilian Reals at the hotel’s front desk. Ask your Concierge for a ‘Cambio’ (currency exchange) with a good exchange rate. Check today’s official rate.

Currently, The Blue Note Rio opens at 5 pm Tuesday through Friday and noon on Saturday and Sunday. You can check the Blue Note Rio’s current performance schedule here.
