The Brazilian pianist and vocalist returns with eight new originals

Today is launch day for Eliane Elias’s latest album – her 31st – titled Time And Again. And while the title reflects her storied career as a consummate performer, these eight songs pace an innovative theme: The passage of time.

Recorded in Sao Paulo, Time And Again returns to Elias’s tried and true collaboration with Take Six arranger Mark Kibble, recreating the rich harmonies first heard nine years ago for the Grammy-winning album Made In Brazil.
“For Time And Again Mark created background vocals on six of the eight songs. I really feel we have a special affinity in the music and together, we’ve created a very unique sound,” says Eliane.

Appropriately, the opening track for Time And Again flips the calendar back to 1989, where ‘At First Sight’ was the lead song for her breakout album, So Far, So Close.
And in a musical case of déjà vu, Elias penned eight originals for that album, too.
Here, Eliane’s lyrics update the original instrumental to showcase yet another facet of her expansive talent. Last week Eliane took to her socials to share this timely post:
“Ever felt that “dancing on the ceiling” kinda love? ‘At First Sight’ from my new album Time and Again explores that joyful, giddy rush of falling head over heels. This is a vocal album and I decided to write lyrics to one of my songs that has been a favorite of many fans and musicians. I was 27 years old when I wrote and first recorded the music!”
At times, this latest collection from Elias is downright reflective. That’s the setting for ‘Sempre’ a touching, emotional duet with Djavan written to express heartfelt gratitude for their stellar careers.

“I wrote the tune ‘Sempre’ (Always) with Djavan in mind, realizing what we have in common and where our lives in music intersect. The lyric talks about how we come from the same place, about our music carrying the sound of the country that formed us both, and about our love of performing and bringing that love and music to people.”
The guest list for this set also includes vibes master Mike Mainieri, guitarist Bill Frisell, and Eliane’s longtime musical timekeeper, drummer Peter Erskine.
Every song enchants and entertains. The lyrics for ‘Falo do Amor (I Talk About Love)’ tell Elias’s story of generational delight in her granddaughter Lucy’s youthful inspiration.
‘Too Late’ closes the album in a reflective mood, sharing feelings of what could have been for a relationship that has ended.
